Ran 8 with Scott, Matt, Jody, Reed, and Brandon.  It is Brandon's birthday, so he was running at least 36k.  I decided to do some extra with him.  We then ran up to Bridal Veil Falls, from the soccer park, at which time I could tell I was very drained so I turned around as he headed up to Vivian.  I had a nice slow run down the canyon, trying not to strain my right quad any more than it was strained yesterday.  and I was tired and didn't feel like trying to run any faster.  The race, plus this weeks mileage and yesterday's climb certainly caught up to me this morning.

That's a stack of miles after a race week. Thanks so much for running with me.

I had to slack off, I mean taper the last two weeks, and only needed like 85 this week to get 300 for the month, so decided to ease back into the mileage. Thanks for the run yesterday, good times.

The buffalo run sucked the life out of me last year. The 6-7 days after that race were my worst runs of the year. Then it turned around. Just keep it easy for a few days until you feel your mojo coming back.

You did win the Buffalo run after already running a 100 miles that week, at least you found something that can suck the life out of you, that was just a great 32 mile workout. Nothing like draining the system so it can get rebuilt stronger. Thanks for the advice Jake. I think the pep will be back next week.

haha yeah, well that did it. Seriously I was hurting bad that next week - here are some excerpts from my log:

Day 1 - "Painfully slow horse park loop with Andrea. Could barely go faster than a walk for the first few hundred yards. Quads are WRECKED!"

Day 2 - "I think its gonna take a week to recover. Tough to go downhill."

Day 6 - "Starting to feel like a runner again"

Followed by...

Day 7 - "Ran w/ Andrea. We both felt completely terrible so we cut it shorter than planned"

Day 10 - "Legs are back under me"

(Day 9 was my first track workout in about 3 years. Naturally that is what got me out of the post-Buffalo run funk. Wait, what?)

Fortunately my downhill muscles only hurt for 4 days, Up was fine after 2, and running on the flat hurt less than walking the 2nd and 3rd day.

I blew up so hard the 2nd lap last year that I had no ill effects from the race, that I recall. Of course it looks like I didn't run for 3 or 4 days, so maybe I did. Who knows. Your day 1 comment is awesome.

And nothing like speed work to knock the rust off the legs.
