Went to Wallsburg with Scott, Jody and Toni.  Planned on 22 back to Jody's house.  I was hoping for a few groups of pick up miles, hoping to stay around MP for some good temp miles.

I started us off too fast of a pace, we usually like to have the first mile be around 8 min pace or so to ease into the run.  But it was 11 degrees, and I was cold, so I started off going a little faster than normal.  We hit mile one a 7:13, then dropped down to 6:35, then 6:30, and other than mile 20 didn't go slower than 6:40.  Averaged a 6:26 pace for the 22 miles.  Heart rate was looking good most of the way, was concerned that I was just more tired the last couple of miles than I wanted to be.  After looking at the splits and heart rate I was far off of "pushing" it most of the miles, even trying to maintain a 160 heart rate which is what I ran uvm 2 years ago looks to be a huge improvement over that speed.  Will be interesting to see how things go the next couple of months.

I'm glad you took accountability for starting off too fast! It was cold. I'll give you that.

Looking back, I'm grateful for the push. Nice work today!

Great run Dan. I think a sub 6 min pace marathon in well within reach.

Awesome run! That is close to what I want my splits for the race to look like (6:29). Your HR looks great!

Great run Dan. If you are averaging under 6:30 pace right now, I agree w/ Fritz that 6:00 pace is definitely something you can do when you run this "for real"

So how do you like the Utah Valley course?

From Dan Varga on Sat, Apr 07, 2012 at 15:34:30 from 174.27.234.106

Scott - I find it fun to push the fast button early and then get impressed at how strong of runner's you and Jody are as you guys are so consistent and stronger for more miles. One of these days I hope to hang with you for the whole run.

Fritz and Jake, thanks for the vote of confidence. I have to tell myself during runs like this when I start to hit the wall and slow down that this is a non-tapered, end of a good week of mileage run, and the "real" race will feel better for longer.

Brandon - You are looking strong and should be able to do a 6:29 for UVM in June. It's been great having another strong training partner.

Andrea, I think UVM course is my favorite road marathon course I have run. 1. UVM 2. TOU 3. St. George 4. Salt Lake
